It's time once again for the anual
ACB
convention. We're here at the hotel, and I must say that thus far, I think this is the best hotel for getting internet at. I'm hoping that will allow me to keep a more frequent account of the goings on here. I make no promises, however.

It's a bittersweet time for me. I'm getting to see friends I've known for years, meet others I've known online and it's wonderful. But Thursday night my great aunt died, and so we may be going to a funeral then coming back. Or not, because I forgot a vital medication at home, and we have to figure out how to get it here. It's hard not to beat myself up and say I've ruined everything. Honestly, the emotional quicksand I've been stuck in for a while just won't give up its grip..

So for those who are at convention, I look forward to seeing you. To those who can't be here, we'll miss you. To everyone, I'll try to write more than I usually do at convention, but I make no promises.

Getting Medication
My condolences to you right now, but try to have a good time at convention, at least as good as time as you can.

As far as getting medication, I have an idea that used to work years back. If you get your medications through a nationwide chain of stores such as Safeway, GNC, and the like, you can often get the precriptions transferred and get a supply of medications for at least the duration of time you'll be in the new city, if not something like a 30 day supply.

To make this process work, you'll need to do a few things:
Have on hand the list of medications you take, and consider which ones are the most vital.
Have on hand the phone number, faxing number, physical address of the "home" store.
Obtain the phone number, faxing number, physical address of the store nearest your current location. A physical address is very important for the store nearest your current location.
Call your home store and explain your situation, that you forgot your medications and are in need of a supply of (names of medication) for a trip lasting (how many days). Ask if there is any way you can have the home store fax a request to the store in your current city (specify which store you want it faxed to here, including the physical address) - with a request to fill which medications for how many dosages.
Depending on how things have changed since I last did this (about 10 years ago) you may have to draw up a document, print it, and fax it to your home pharmacy giving your authorization with your signature. Generally hotels have a fax machine and would be willing to do this, however you'd have to think about your comfort level with faxing it at the hotel.
Then the home pharmacy should grant the request and fax over a prescription request to the store in the city you're currently at. You should call the current store and pharmacy to see if the prescription is ready, or to explain it is urgent that things be filled.
Go pick up your prescriptions when informed to do so.
Enjoy having medication at convention!

As an alternative, you may need to call the doctor's office in your home city to get them to call (or fax) a request to the Safeway (or other named store) in your current city. Make sure you know what medications you need, how many dosages you will need, and what medications you can consider living without during convention, because some pharmacies may be unable to fulfill your full request.

When you return home after convention, it is important to check with your home pharmacy (esp. if you worked through the pharmacy, not your doctor) and make sure your prescriptions are still in place at your home city, because one time when I pulled this trick, they thought we had moved and were filling our prescriptions in the now faraway city!

I hope this helps you, and again, my condolences to you at this time. Enjoy convention as best you can.
