Fall 2006 Reflections: Holy Writ Rewrit

I've decided to reflect, or debrief, on how this semester went. My grade appears to be in for fall semester for Holy Writ Rewrit, and suffice it to say, I'm pleasantly surprised! So, I thought I'd reflect on this first.

This was my first honors seminar, and it reminded me of my hard courses in high school. I wasn't sure I even belonged in that class. I shed more than a few tears (literally and figuratively) over that course.

First, and foremost, there was the challenge of research. Reasearch is harder in a class like this because there aren't a lot of accessible Bible resources of academic standing. And my professor wanted us to use specific sources, which I could not easily access. That was a huge source of stress for me.

The reading was voluminous. The novels are easy to deal with, but the poetry is not. I endoyed the reading, just not the fact that it made my brain hurt.

What I did enjoy was seeing the context of Biblical passages and non-Biblical literature. That's part of why I took the class.

The course was hard, but I'm glad I took it. I learned how to write a good research paper even when I have no idea of what I'm talking about. I learned how to work with a reader and texts I'm completely unfamiliar with. And, I gained knowledge of passages I would not have read otherwise.
