Play The Sunset

We're watching Mr. Holland's Opus. In this movie, there's a girl learning to play the clarinet. She can't get past not being able to play. Mr. Holland asks her what she likes best about herself. She says she likes her hair because her father says it reminds him of the sunset. Mr. Holland tells her to play the sunset. My question, what if I stopped procrastinating my writing and wrote the sunset? What if I wrote from the heart first, then edited?

I love that film. And the sunset girl is played by Alicia Witt, one of my favourite actresses. Such gorgeous red hair--the girl is a knockout.

It's hard to write the sunset--I know I haven't mastered the skill yet. I dare you to do it, mon amie. I'll try, too, and maybe we'll both write something brilliant before school gets back in session.

Sunset
I took your dare. I'm writing Julio's and my story. It's taken me two years to work up the courage.

I love that movie! I've had the DVS version on my hard drive for months and haven't gotten around to watching it. Hmm, maybe something to do this weekend?

Watch it!
You should definitely watch it! It reminds me that there is a purpose to life I can't always see.

Your blog
I agree, the honest entries are the best in your and many other blogs. We spend so many hours wearing masks, I think the truth shines brighter because it surprises us. And then, we realize that we said more than we realized at first.

In the movie "Mr Hollands Opus", Mr Holland tells his teenage girl studend to play the sunset. What does that mean? There are two things happing here both of which make that scene really interesting. Mr Holland is a musician learning to be a teacher of his art. His clarinet student is struggling to find her musical voice. His student is on the verge of quiting, of giving up her instrument forever and Mr Holland asks her the question: "Is it any fun"? subsequuntly follower by the suggestion to "play the sunset".

To his suprise and delight, she does play the sunset and begins to find her musical voice. Mr Holland finds his way as a teacher.
