Cut cuddle and be Cute

In and Out of Comfort... Zones that is.

I’m in severe pain. I’m a student, and pain makes functioning incredibly hard. It’s like a sunburn from the inside. Put another way, it’s a fire which cannot be quenched.

Now, I’m expanding my efforts to put out, or at least control the fire. As part of my new year’s blogging this year, I set several goals for myself. Some changes I’ve made are claiming more comfort for myself, trying physical therapy again, getting counseling, eating healthier, drinking more water and taking time to relax.

I already see positive changes. I’m getting support. Everyone I work with is working so I can function safely and comfortably. Physical therapy has already made walking safer and decreased the pain’s effects on my body. The doctors I see know how serious I am that something’s got to change. My pain is high, but I’m slowly changing that. I will not sit silently and accept pain so high it brings tears. And by pushing myself, I find comfort knowing that I’ll feel better. I will find a solution. Until then, I’m making progress to a healthier life. These changes pushed me out of my comfort zone. Admitting I need help, that my life isn’t how I want it to be took courage. But if the changes make me feel better, reduce my pain and support healing, then I’m really pushing myself into my comfort zone.

A Few New changes for Nickie's Nook

One of my goals for this year was to improve the blog in several ways. As time has allowed, I've made a change here and a change there. It' snow time to describe those changes to you. I think this will be especially helpful to those who read my blog from an LJ friends page and those who read through RSS or email.

First, the blog has a new slogan which describes the blog better, and will hopefully be more helpful for those searching for blogs relating to the topics I blog about. The slogan is at the top of the blog, just above the "About this Blog" section for those who use screen readers. That slogan is "A girl, a Guide Dog, chronic pain and a sense of humor"

Moving on, the about this blog section is expanded. On one hand, I don't want it to be too big, but I do want people to know about things like email subscriptions and RSS, as well as another cool feature. Those features are easier to reach now, especially for those who use screen readers.

The guest book! AI haven't used a guest book in years, basically not since I actually maintained my old web site. I refuse to link to that site, but a relatively good googler can probably find it. Anyway, Nickie's Nook now has a guest book, thanks to
Bruce
and
Caroline
It allows for private messages as well as public ones. If it's effective enough, I may use that and phaze out the email form which is stuck down among all the links.
Just sign the thing, you know you want to!

Updates to the sidebar: I don't remember where the sidebar is if you're a sight-using reader, but I know it shows up below the entries if you use a screen reader. I have added links to a few more profiles of mine online, and I've also added a section devoted to my new year's goals. Posts relating to them will show up soon, I promise! And if you haven't checked out some of the other links, please do. They give some great perspective on some of the topics of this blog.

That's pretty much it. What I would like to change is the prominence of the book. I'd like to know if I could make it more obvious. Is it hard to find if you're sighted? I know it could be if you're blind. What would you suggest I do to make it easier to find the link to the book?

Lastly, I want to say a huge thank you to all of you who read this blog. I've learned so much from you, and I really hope these new changes help you as much as possible.
